Andalucía’s Capital City

Welcome to Sevilla! Home of the filming of scenes from Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Knight and Day, and Laurence of Arabia. Sevilla is the city that has the most orange trees in Spain (not so delicious to eat). Sevilla was also where Christopher Columbus was laid to rest. Sevilla is a captivating city of Andalucía.

Highlights

Sevilla is bigger than you may think! I recommend at least 2 to 3 days in the city to really appreciate what it has to offer. Here are some must do’s when traveling to Sevilla.

  • Parque de Maria Luisa: If you are an active Bird’s Eye View reader, you can probably tell that I always love visiting different parks in new cities. Well, Sevilla is no different. Spend a few hours walking through this massive park. Don’t miss Plaza de España (where a scene of Stars Wars was filmed).

  • Real Alcázar de Sevilla: A historic royal palace in Sevilla. If you have been to the Alhambra in Granada (see Bird’s Eye View on Granada), this is a smaller palace, but has a similar vibe. A general entrance ticket is 15€!

  • Catedral de Sevilla: If you are interested in Spanish cathedrals, Sevilla’s is the largest in Spain, even larger than Sagrada Familia (see Bird’s Eye View on Barcelona)! This is also the resting place of Christopher Columbus. Tickets are 13€. You can even climb the tower and have a great view of the city!
  • Las Setas: Setas translates to mushrooms in English. And yes, this monument is a giant mushroom. Paying 16€, you can go up the mushroom and have a view of the city. Personally, I don’t think it is worth it, but if it has always been a dream of yours to climb on a mushroom, go for it!

The Other Side of the River

Just across the river is the neighborhood of Triana. Triana is famous for ceramics and there are many shops to look for your souvineers. Also, I recommend the Triana Market. It is a fresh food market with fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and more!

Food Option on this side of town: Restaurante La Salá (Los Remedios). It is a delicious Peruvian restaurant. Try the Pisco Sour and the Aji de Gallina.

Dining in Sevilla

Being one of the larger cities in Andalucia, Spain, Sevilla has a lot of delicious restaurant options.

  • Habanita: Cuban Restaurant
  • La Mala Brunch: Brunch Restaurant
  • La Cacharreria: Brunch/Breakfast
  • De Nata: AMAZING Portuguese pastries

Entertainment

Looking for a cultural experience? You must see a flamanco show. Flamanco is a traditional dance, especially performed in the south of Spain. There are many great ones to see, but I recommend La Casa del Flamenco- Audiotorio Alcántara. Tickets to this show are 25€ or 20€ for students.
